We are realizing a long-term dream
to be able to look after our own guests!

We have both been in the hospitality industry since leaving school, and worked in well known Hotels and Restaurants in the UK. A 30 year career developing recipes and inspiring major Supermarkets with top quality products has also been a career highlight. We are both passionate about exceeding our guests expectations, as well as using the amazing ingredients and products Normandy has to offer.

We bought the property in 2006, and now live in Normandy, having moved here in December 2020, and feel we are lucky to be in such an interesting, beautiful and ideal location. We feel we are ready to combine our growing admiration for the area, and our extensive catering experience to provide our guests with a unique and rewarding stay, Sante!!!!

Things To Do

Mont Saint Michel

Mont Saint Michel lies at the border of Normandy and Brittany.

The history of this tidal Island begins in the year 708 AD, when legend has it, a Bishop Aubert was visited by a vision of Arch Angel Michael, and called to erect a church on the Island, hence the name!

Monks settled on the Island in 966 AD, the new church being built before the year 1000 AD.

In the 11th century architect William Volpiano built the Romanesque Abbey, then becoming a place of pilgrimage for Christians – also becoming a centre for Medieval culture.

In the 14th century and the 100 years’ war with the English, meant new military fortifications were installed.

In the 16th century its popularity waned as the Reformation hit Europe – by the time the French Revolution started barely any monks lived/worshipped on the Island. During this time, it was closed and turned into a prison.

In the 1830’s important historical figures including Victor Hugo came together to fight to restore Mont Saint Michel to its former glory.

The prison closed in 1863 and was declared a historical monument in 1874.

A lot of work was required to restore it, in 1878 the causeway was built, and a tramway to bring over the tourists.

During the 2nd world war, the German soldiers occupied Mont Saint Michel, where they used St Auburn church as a look out post. From July 1940 until the end of the occupation it was a major attraction for tourists and soldiers.

In the late 1960’s a small group of Benedictine monks took up residence.

In 1979 it was named UNESCO World Heritage Site, being credited with its natural man made and architectural significance.

The new barrage to protect the flow of water around the bay and prevent the build-up of sediment started in 2009. The car park being moved 2.5km away, and a free shuttle bus or horse drawn carriage can take you the short journey.

The best time to go is in the evening, less crowded, parking is cheaper, and you can catch a great sunset picture too!

Close to 3 million people visit this iconic site every year!

  • Chris & Chris are two amazing hosts that make you really feel at home. They will amaze you with their friendliness, knowledge of the area and pamper you with their homemade delicacies. We are talking about a former chef and an incredibly creative wife: breakfast in their company is a must! The room has a comfortable bed and a sofa; The bathroom has two sinks and a modern open and spacious shower. The location is located in a villa surrounded by garden and protected by hedges. There is a large car park right in front of it. A few minutes drive from Rue Veillon there are many photo spots of Mont-Saint-Michel, which is even visible in the distance from the property. We separated with a tear and promised to see each other again. Highly recommended stay!

  • Staying at Rue Veillon was more than a stay, I'd say it was an experience. Chris and Chris are fabulous hosts, easy to have a conversation with right away, and they have a lot of excellent advice to visit the surroundings. Mt Saint Michel is just 10 minutes away, yet our stay was super calm. And the breakfast! Absolutely amazing and made fresh daily with a passion that shows Chris & Chris' commitment to make their guests feel at home. I can only highly recommend staying there and would look to book again myself if I'm in the region.

  • We liked the location of the house which is really close to Mont St Michel and offers a view of the Mont. We enjoyed the room and the large bathroom. We traveled with a baby and it was just perfect. And finally what we loved the most is the owners, their kindness, their kindness, their kindness and the fabulous breakfast they cooked us every morning!! Chris and Chris are really very attentive and we shared good moments with them. It really felt like home. We enjoyed the garden and living room. A place that makes us want to come back! 1000% recommend!!

  • Outstanding, varied breakfast, creative, visually very attractively presented, high quality ingredients, with any long explanations of origin and method of preparation (also replacing the cooking class immediately). Even the (of course changing daily) "Amuse bouche" allows us to guess that they are cooking at the Michelin star level. That cannot be praised enough and is in my opinion far above what you are getting in high end Hotels offered for breakfast. Just for breakfast, it's worth the price of the accommodation. Chris and Chris are extremely pleasant hosts from England, with whom you can of course easily talk in English as well. The accommodation is immaculately clean, the bathroom is very large and of high quality, everything works perfectly. Parking spaces in front of the house, always free. View of Mont St. nice bonus.

  • The hospitality is enormous, you really feel like a guest and they do their best to make your holiday as perfect as possible. The breakfast was fantastic, very specially served as a 5 course menu with all culinary delights, explaining what it is and how it is made. All 3 mornings different dishes, all equally original, fresh and tasty. The bathroom is nice, spacious and functional.

  • Incredibly nice and quiet place with wonderful hosts who spoiled us with the most incredible and amazing breakfast ever. Close to Monte saint Michel and other nice excursions such as Cancale as suggested by the host couple. Big plus for nice evenings in the garden with them and all our conversations. Thank you Chris & Chris, it was wonderful staying with you and will be back as soon as our next destination is close to your amazing home. Hugs Anette and Tomas Östling

  • Chris & Chris are really nice and welcoming English. I have to mention this as we couldn't speak French and they were our savings 😄 They served us a delicious, varied breakfast in the morning. We are vegetarian but that was not a problem at all. With such a pleasure that they have always put something else on the table for us, it was wonderful! And again and again the door to the kitchen opened and something new, delicious was presented to us. We will always remember that. They could give us good excursion tips, the recommended restaurant was great as well. This house is very quietly located with a large garden, from there you can see Mont Saint Michel! The room was very lovingly furnished. The mattresses are perfect - I have problems with my back, but I was able to lie and sleep really well there. There is nothing missing in this accommodation - the two of them have thought of everything! The bathroom is modern, the walk-in shower is huge! Also there is everything you need needs- it is perfect. Of course, it should be mentioned that it is very, very clean everywhere. We had a wonderful time 👍🏻.Thanks to Chris & Chris

  • We liked everything. We were warmly welcomed by a magical English couple and every morning spoiled with a lovingly prepared 5-course breakfast. All the jams, the bread, the cakes made by yourself. The room was very comfortable with a super-warm bed, in which we could sleep excellently. The bathroom was very spacious and stylish. In the village it was very quiet and from the garden you can see Mont St Michel in the distance. We felt at home. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Chris and Chris almost became friends on the three nights we stayed. We highly recommend staying with Chris and Chris, wholeheartedly and warmly. At this point, a thank you to the two hosts and a goodbye!
